Study Policy

  credit hour system is applied all through the duration of study of Five years in our college and it is divided into ten semesters. Each academic year comprises 3 academic semesters namely Fall, Spring and Summer. A student is supposed to study 170 credit hours throughout a period of five years. The total credit hours comprise 162 credit hours of compulsory courses and ten credit hours of elective courses.


Evaluation Methods:

The Evaluation method is adopted on basis of points specified to every academic course according to the following table:

The Faculty of pharmacy, Modern University for Technology and Information provides a creative and developed curriculum to qualify pharmacists, who are able to compete nationally and internationally in all related pharmaceutical fields and to support and develop pharmaceutical industry, as well as effectively participating in scientific research and community development.

Departements

The Department offers courses in Organic Chemistry I, II, III, IV. Students will learn Chemical structure and Physicochemical characteristics of various organic compounds. Being the basis of Cellular Nucleotides, Heterocyclic Organic chemistry is also thought as an integral part of the department curriculum. Synthesis of organic compounds is additionally addressed since it is the main source of the development of recent drugs.

The department offers courses in general and physical chemistry, analytical chemistry (I, II, III), applied and instrumental analysis. These courses provide major basic scientific information on drug and pharmaceutical products analyses for the purpose of checking quality and conformity according to the international standards. Various methods of analysis are used that pertain the new instrumental devices. The department is also co-sharing the teaching of the quality control and quality assurance with department of Pharmaceutics; this course is mainly confined with providing students information on different quality control and assurance aspects in many applications including pharmaceutical industry, water sanitation, food and agriculture products as well as biochemical and microbiological labs.

  Courses offered by the department entail pharmaceutical chemistry I, II, III beside drug design. The course aim at teaching the students the importance of the structure activity relationship in which modification of chemical structure is linked to the pharmacological activities of medicaments. In addition, students are also familiarized with advanced methods both of synthesis of drugs as well as the analysis of various pharmaceutical dosage forms. Furthermore, the understanding of the know-how of the metabolic pathways on the modification of the existing drugs to develope more relevant new congeners.

The department offers many courses that are covering all levels of the pharmacy program including pharmacy orientation, mathematics, physical pharamcy, pharmaceutics I, II, III, biopharmaceuticals, pharamcokinetics, hospital and community pharmacy, industerial pharmacy as well as pharmaceutical quality control and quality assurance, pharmacy management and marketing. Novel drug delivery system and cosmotics are also elective courses provided by the department. The main goal of teaching these courses is to enable students to learn the know-how of formulating a pharmacologically active entity into safe and stable dosage form that is convenient for administration.

The department provides courses in biochemistry I and II, clinical biochemistry, and clinical nutrition. The main teaching goal resides on learning students the basic knowledge of cell and moleular biology, the biochemistry if biomolecules including carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, DNA and RNA. Biochemical pathways at cellular and molecular levels are also addressed. Various biochemical tests as biomarks of different bodily functions as well as tumor markers are also offered. Nutrition status in health and disease will also be an elective course that addresses the role of nutrition in many pathological conditions.

The department of clinical pharmacy offers students applied courses that enable them to master up-to-date techniques adopted for the best patient healthcare. The courses include pathophsiology, clinical pharmacy I & II, Drug and poison information. Clinical pharmacy in its broad sense involves the pharmacist,s active participation as a member of the health care team. This involves; patient counseling on the proper and safe use of medications, therapeutic drug monitoring, monitoring drug interactions as well as providing physicians, nurses and patients with drug information.

The department offers courses in botany and medicinal plants, Pharmaconosy I, II, and III as well as phytochemistry I and II. Students will be taught how to identify natural drugs morphometrically and microscopically, their collection and proper storage. Isolation of active constitutents from crude drugs and their identification is an essential topic in the department program. Surveying medicinal plants in rural taxonomically, morphologically, and phytchemically is also addressed.

Pharmacology and toxicology are broadly based biochemical sciences involving the study of the biochemical basis and therapeutic and/or potential toxicity of chemical agents on biological systems. The department offers courses in basic pharmacology I, II, III and clinical pharmacology beside the study of toxicology and forensic chemistry, drug evaluation. Medical courses are also provided including anatomy and histology, medical terminology,pharmaceutical biostatics and physiology.

    The Department offers courses in parasitology and pathology,  microbiology and immunology and medical microbiology besides public health, biotechnology, gene therapy and applied genetic engineering as well as pharmaceutical microbiology. On completion of the courses, students will be able to learn the basics of microscopical identification of microorganisms, laboratory tests to detect infectious agents and anti-microbial agents used to manage infection such as antibiotics, antifungals, and antiviral. Different techniques used in sterilization as well as various protocols adopted to control microbial diseases will be taught. Immunology, virology and recent applications of genes in the medical field are almost among the topics provided.
